Post think, think, think!!!

Someone's had gave you 9 balls for golf. 8 of which are equal in weight. The ninth is slightly heavier then the rest. You also have a balancing scale. Can you use this scale 2 times & only 2 times in order to say which one of them (balls) is heavier?
very simple, just think of it.

very simple
take 3 balls name them 1,2,3 then take 3 balls name them 4,5,6 if they are equal then the heavir ball is in the 3 left wich we will call them now 7,8,9 balance 7 and 8 if they are equal then 9 is the heavy one or else 7 or 8. But if 1,2,3 and 4,5,6 are not equal u can take the heavy ones suppose 1,2,3 and then balance 1 and 2 if theyr equal then 3 is the heavy one or else 1 or 2
heheeh simple

Re: think, think, think!!!

it look a lot like the gold coins riddle i posted and which u answered right.
so i am just gona give you the same answer u gave me.
First, take 8 of the 9 golf balls, and load the balancing scale up with four balls on each side. Now, if both sides are equal then the remaining ball is the heavier ball.
However, if this is not the case.
i.e. if the two sides are not equal
Then, the heavier ball is on one side os the scale. Now you must unload at the same time a single ball from both sides of the scale. If the scales now balance then one of the balls you took off is the heavier ball. But if they remain unbalanced, this means that the heavier ball is still on the scale. So you keep doing the same, take a single ball from both sides of the scale and see if it balance or not. Now you are left with two balls and there you go you can see which one is heavier.
Now in the case that while you are unloading the sides of the scale. If they balance then you take the one of the two balls you unloaded (before the scale balanced) and you put it on the scale with the first ball the 9th one, that we kept aside. And there you go the heavier ball is the one that the balance show is the heavier.

Eventhough, i doubt that would post a riddle that have the same answer as mine in the same week, but i think this answer makes sense.
If not, you let me know.
salamat
