the answer is: 864.
Suppose the following:
M for men
B for baskets
C for cats
K for for kittens
L for legs

Now we have:
6M
1M ---> 6B
1B ---> 6C
1C ---> 6K
1C ---> 4L
however notice, that each it says that the basket has six cats and those six cats has six kittens, but kittens r small cats as we all know there is only six cats in each basket whether kittens, male, female we dont know and we dont care. therefore, each basket has 6C and the thing about the kittens does not really matter.
then we have: 6M ---> (6M*6B= 36B) ---> (36B*6C= 216C) ---> (216C*4L=864L)
therefore, the answer is 864 legs.

now, to calculate the number of legs:
each kitten has 4 legs ==> 1296 x 4 = 5184 legs
each cat has 4 legs ==> 216 x 4 = 864 legs
each man has 2 legs ==> 6 x 2 = 12 legs

5184 + 864 + 12 = 6060 legs!
