sock drawer
In your sock drawer, you have a ratio of 5 pairs of blue socks, 4 pairs of brown socks, and 6 pairs of black socks. In complete darkness, how many socks would you need to pull out to get a matching pair of the same color?

Re: sock drawer
well we have three colors of socks which are blue, brown and black. and we know that with socks it does not matter whether a left or a right pair it is all the same. so we need w matching pair of the same color regardless of whether a left or a right pair. well we have three colors of socks right ? so if we take out three socks, assuming the worst which is they all having different colors, then we need only one more sock to get a matching pair of the same color. since we have only three colors and thus the forth has to match one those three color.
thus, the answer is 4. |
