A space mission to Mars has been postponed because satellite images show that the entire planet is engulfed in giant dust storms. The images show that so much dust is flying about the planet that you can no longer see any of its landscape features like craters.
The dust storms are swirling to a distance of 40 miles above the surface of the planet causing NASA to have to change the flight path of the Mars Odyssey probe which is on its way to the planet. Dust storms on Mars happen every spring but these ones are the most violent ever recorded by the Mars Global Surveyor. |
