In the next billion years the sun will become brighter and the surface of the earth will burn up. NASA scientists believe that by using a 'gravitational sling shot' technique that is used to send probes to the outer planets; earth could be repositioned to keep a cool climate. This would not only save life on earth but could be used to move other planets to make them habitable.
All that NASA needs to perform this operation is an asteroid measuring about 100km across, to fly past earth transferring some energy to our planet. The asteroid would then move out towards Jupiter where it would gain more energy to give to earth next time it flew past. This would need to happen every 6,000 years to keep the earth far enough away from the sun. There would also be a need for small alteration to the orbits of other planets to keep them stable. There is one flaw in the plan. Even a small misjudgement could cause earth to collide with the asteroid, which would wipe out all life on earth. |

Re: Scientists saving earth !!
Very interesting. However, with all the environmental deterioration, i really doubt that the human species will make it to the next Billenium
