French Goalkeeper Barthez Banned for 3 Months for Spitting on Referee
French goalkeeper Fabien Barthez received a six-month ban -- three of them suspended -- on Friday for spitting on a referee in a friendly two months ago. The ruling by the French soccer federation came a day after its 17-man disciplinary commission met to decide the Marseille 'keeper's fate. Barthez could have been suspended for as long as one year for spitting at and verbally abusing Abdellah el-Achiri in Casablanca, Morocco, two months ago. The 33-year-old Barthez ran off the bench to confront el-Achiri in the 80th minute of the Feb. 12 match between Marseille and Wydad Casablanca, in which players were involved in several illegal tackles and arguments. Video replays clearly show Barthez raising his arms toward the referee although no physical contact was made -- and then spitting on him. NB: (if someone have the video plz post it here ) thanks
